Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actor since the late 1980s. She is known for her roles in film and television in the 1980s, she's won numerous awards such as two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett is from New York New York. She was raised at Winston-Salem North Carolina. Bassett as well as her mother and sister moved into St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was five. Their father had separated from their mom. Bassett chose to become an actor after watching the play Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. She was a student at Yale University New Haven Connecticut receiving a bachelor's degree (1980) in African American studies and a master's degree (1983) from the Yale School of Drama. She was introduced to Courtney B. Vance, a fellow actress at Yale and they married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Graduated from Yale School of Drama School with a master's degree in African American studies in the year 1980.
